High School Musical’s Zac Efron seen in an Audi S6

High School Musical star Zac Efron was recently seen in an Audi S6, the sporty version of the German automaker’s midsize sedan, which may height the profile of Audis in New York for buyers.

While Efron didn’t comment about his rationale for the sedan, it’s doubtful he’d have much to complain about with a car that puts out 435 horsepower, going from 0 to 60 in just over five seconds.

The S6 also has a variable all-wheel drive system that reacts to road conditions to push power to the wheels that needs the most power, as well as heated leather seats for comfort’s sake.

A used Audi A6 from 2003 may also interested those looking for used cars in New York, since it’s a more affordable version of the S6.

Buyers have a variety of engine options depending on the trim level, but those same leather seats are available in the more relaxed A6, along with the handling of all-wheel drive handling.

Noting the car’s “heavenly cabin furnishings,” Edmunds.com editors said the car was worth a look for buyers interested in a smooth riding vehicle.

Customized ride may have been NBA star’s downfall

NBA player Darius Miles was arrested on May 13 after police reportedly found marijuana following a search of the trunk of his used Chevrolet, but some writers are wondering if his penchant for customization may have also led to the seizure.

Miles has allegedly had at least one car customized by an Ocala, Florida auto shop, according to a River Front Times report, and an image of the supposedly Miles-owned used car that had been modified with lifts, large diameter wheels and scissor-style doors popularized by Italian automaker Lamborghini.

The news provider asked if the player’s “outrageous taste” in his transportation choices may have played a role in being stopped by police.

In a report from the Associated Press, however, it was Miles’ alleged failure to use a turn signal that prompted the traffic stop and subsequent search in Illinois.

While buyers looking for used cars in New York may not be interested in even the suggestion of police attention, the 2005 model offers room to fit six and good safety scores according to Edmunds.com editors, and it remains an affordable option that may be less conspicuous without customization.

Actor Ben Stiller prefers German engineering for his ride

While he has the money to plunk down payments on some of the most expensive cars in the world, Night at the Museum star Ben Stiller was recently spotted by photographers stepping out in an Audi Q7.

Reports didn’t mention Stiller’s rationale for buying the Audi SUV, but the Tropic Thunder actor may enjoy the powerful V8 engine in the top-of-the-line trim package that puts out 350 horsepower and still gets up to 18 miles per gallon on the highway based on EPA estimates and retails for around $60,000.

The Q7 was introduced in the U.S. in 2006 for the 2007 model year, and base models from then may be had for below $30,000 for the luxury make’s seven-seat SUV, according to Edmunds.com editors.

They also praised the vehicle’s handling with adjustable air suspension and top-notch design and craftsmanship.
Stiller, of course, may be using his to tool around in preparation for Little Fockers, the third installation in the Meet the Fockers series that is currently in pre-production.

When not on a skateboard, Ryan Sheckler is in his Ferrari

Even though he’s a professional skateboarder, even Ryan Sheckler could use a ride from time to time. And, when you’ve starred in your own reality television show, launched various clothing lines and featured in Entrepreneur.com, you have to roll in style.

Recently the 19-year-old was photographed driving a black Ferrari F430, which is apparently a popular choice among celebrities since fellow reality star Kim Kardashian was also seen driving the same car a couple of weeks ago.

In an article that appeared on Entrepreneur.com, Sheckler was compared to skating’s version of Jay-Z and spending his non-competing days in his office promoting his clothing line, signing shoes for fans or working with his mom who runs his charitable foundation.

But since he’s a business man, Scheckler can probably afford the Ferrari, which has a price range of $173,079 to $282,618.

Speed may be key for someone rising in the business world, which is easy for the Ferrari F430’s V8 engine that develops 490 horsepower at 8,500 rpm and 342 pounds-feet of torque at 5,250 rpm, according to Cars.com. All of that gets the driver from 0 to 60 mph in a time of four seconds.

‘Whoa.’ Keanu Reeves wins Toyota Celebrity Race

Actor Keanu Reeves reportedly expressed shock at winning the celebrity category in the 2009 Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race in his “race-ready” Scion tC.

Winning overall was Al Unser Jr., in the professional category, who has won the Toyota Grand Prix six times.

But it may have been Reeves’ battle with fellow celebs, such as comedian Carlos Mencia and Fonzworth Bentley, hose of MTV’s From G’s to Gents.

After Bentley “mixed it up” in the ninth lap with world champion pro skateboard Danny Way, who had been leading for most of the race, it allowed Reeves an opening to take the race.

“It is such a great feeling,” said Reeves after the race. “Bentley and I had been going at it for most of the race, but when I got to the last lap and came around the fountain turn I almost couldn’t believe it. I figured, ‘I’m just gonna go get it.'”

However, not all the celebrities had such a stellar day.

The race was a 1.97-mile street circuit through the downtown streets of Long Beach, which proved too much to handle for actress and singer Raven Symone.

Queen Latifah’s Lexus looks damaged

Even celebrities sometimes have car problems which leave them without their means of transportation for a few days. According to one blogger that’s the case with Queen Latifah and her Mercedes.

According to the LexusNet Blog, Latifah’s Mercedes-Benz S-Class was seen with some serious damage to its passenger side recently.

The blog says a tow-truck driver reported that he pulled the car out of a ditch, and from the looks of pictures, the car appears to have suffered most of the damage to its passenger side.

LexusNet Blog says that the major problems with the car appear to be with the suspension, control arm oil cooler and right front wheel.

U.S. News & World Report ranked the 2009 Mercedes S-Class as its number two car in the “super luxury” category – just behind the BMW 7-Series.

According to the magazine, the car ranges from between $90,000 and $200,000 depending on options and can apparently do 0-60 in about four seconds. Like many in its category, the S-Class is not a gasoline sipper as the S550 has an EPA rating of 14 miles per gallon in the city and 21 on the highway, says the magazine.

Kim Kardashian handles a Ferrari F430

She’s got money, a reality television show and a NFL boyfriend, what else could Kim Kardashian need? Apparently a Ferrari F430 as she was recently seen driving around in the sports car.

The former Dancing With The Stars contestant was seen driving a gray Ferrari F430 around Los Angeles. The base model of the car has a retail price of $186,925 but it’s more likely that the convertible Kardashian has been seen in runs upwards of $230,000.

Clearly Kardashian is not in the Prius-camp of Hollywood celebrities who are looking to improve their gas mileage as the 2009 Ferrari F430 gets an estimated 13 miles per gallon.

But for most Ferrari owners, miles per gallon are the least of their concerns as they’re specifically looking for speed, something the F430 delivers in spades. According to Cars.com, the car can go 0-60 in just over 4 seconds while handling the quarter-mile in 12.34 seconds at a speed of 117 miles per hour.

For the price, some argue that the Ferrari is not the best performance vehicle available.

“If you’re in the market for an exotic street machine, consider the Lamborghini Gallardo – the F430’s primary competitor,” writes U.S. News & World Report. “It provides faster off-the-line performance, but still can’t handle corners as seamlessly as the F430. However, at this level of performance, that’s just [nitpicking].”

Jenna Bush’s Secret Service detail vehicle towed

It appears that life outside of the White House isn’t so good for the Bush family as a recent report notes that a car in the Secret Service detail of former president Bush’s daughter Jenna was towed recently for unpaid parking tickets.

According to InvestigativeVoice.com, the Secret Service vehicle was towed and impounded in Baltimore, Maryland last week after city workers realized it had expired license plates.

Officials originally said the car was towed because of numerous unpaid parking citations but Baltimore department of transportation spokeswoman Adrienne Barnes told the website on Sunday that the realization that the vehicle had expired tags forced them to tow the vehicle.

It would appear that the parking violations stem from the lack of available parking near Bush’s residence in South Baltimore which residents told the website is notoriously low on parking.

City councilman Bill Cole said he is in favor of the towing, and says the former first daughter should be treated like everyone else.

“I think it is a good thing that the city towed the vehicle – we have a serious shortage of parking spaces,” he said. “Everyone should be treated the same when it comes to traffic laws, and everyone should have to pay their tickets.”

Former vice president Dick Cheney recently told CNN that he is getting used to driving himself again after being prohibited from doing so for the last eight years in office.

Jennifer Love Hewitt and her new Bentley

It’s not uncommon to see a new couple head to the local fast food chain for a quick bite to eat in the afternoon, but it is somewhat surprising when the couple is Jennifer Love Hewitt and Jamie Kennedy. And maybe even more surprising when they pull up to Taco Bell in a Bentley.

Hewitt and Kennedy were spotted Sunday at a California Taco Bell driving in what appeared to be the Ghost Whisperer’s new silver Bentley Continental. But only the day before the former Party of Five star was seen in a white convertible version of the luxury car.

According to Automotive.com, the manufacturer’s suggested retail price for a base 2009 Bentley Continental is $197,100. Switch to the convertible model and the price increases to $217,200.

These prices are without a variety of available features for the vehicle including 20 inch 7-spoke alloy sports wheels which will bump the price another $5,990.

But Edmunds.com says the car may not be worth the money. While a number of high-powered people purchase the car because of its intrigue, Edmunds says a Mercedes CL600 – which outperforms the car in every category – goes for about $25,000 less.

Avoiding the repo man

As the recession continues, many Americans are struggling to make their used car payments which is causing many to lose their car to the dreaded repo man. But according to Edmunds.com, there are some steps drivers can take to avoid getting towed away.

Tom Webb, chief economist at vehicle auction giant Manheim told Edmunds.com that 1.67 million people in the U.S. had a car repossessed last year and the numbers are only expected to increase this year.

The news provider says if a car owner is having trouble making payments, the amount of time they have until the repo man shows up depends on how they’ve made payments in the past. If they’ve been relatively up-to-date, a credit agency may work to help set up a payment plan. But if payments are chronically late or not made altogether, a car owner may have only days after the due date.

Another option for some car owners would be to try to sell their vehicle and purchase a more inexpensive used car.

Because of the economy more people are looking for used cars, which is driving the price for many makes and models.
