Jillian Barberie-Reynolds’ Mercedes S550

Jillian Barberie-Reynolds is mostly known for her weather segments on every Sunday during football season on Fox’s NFL Sunday and daily on Good Day LA, but it’s her 2007 Mercedes-Benz S550 that might get her the most attention on the road.

“My front grille is all blacked out, it’s super sexy and it’s a matte black,” she recently told Motor Trend. “It’s not for everybody, my girlfriends are like, ‘It’s so gangster looking’ but I love that.”

The S550, which Barberie-Reynolds calls the Batmobile, is her second Mercedes and she tells the magazine that while she’s had Porches and BMWs in the past, they just didn’t fit her lifestyle.

“The last car I had was the Porsche, it was 6-speed Tiptronic, I loved it but it wasn’t practical for the amount of driving I do, it wasn’t luxurious,” she told the magazine.

It seems that the S550 does match Barberie-Reynolds’ idea of luxury. In reviewing the 2009 model, Edmunds’ Left Lane website called the car a “living room on wheels.” Yet it’s still likely faster than any living room you’ve been in as it’s clocked at 0-60 in 5.4 seconds.

However, Barberie-Reynolds likely spends a lot of time filling up the gas tank, as the website says the car gets about 14 mpg in the city.

Hef’s new girlfriends need a car upgrade

Playboy icon Hugh Hefner may have found himself some new girlfriends to replace the Girls Next Door, but it seems that he has yet to give the girls a new set of wheels as photographers recently caught two of them getting into a Mitsubishi.

The octogenarian founder of the men’s magazine has reportedly replaced former girlfriends Holly Madison, Kendra Wilkinson and Bridget Marquardt with three new models, including 19-year-old twins Karissa and Kristina Shannon.

It seems that the twins were recently spotted in a California parking lot by photographers getting into a Mitsubishi – quite a difference from the Cadillac Escalade that former girlfriend Kendra Wilson had stolen from her last year according to TMZ.

According to the Celebrity Cars Blog, that’s not how it’s done in California.

“[T]hey are in desperate need of a new ride!” writes the blog. “My guess is they’re not from around here!”

Even Holly Madison was seen driving a classic Chevy Corvette last year and in one episode of the E! Network show The Girls Next Door, Bridget Wilkinson was seen driving in a red Porsche with customized Playboy logo rims.

Romantic Rides for Valentine’s Day

With Valentine’s Day only days away some couples may be thinking of taking a long romantic car ride together and maybe heading to “Makeout Point.” If that’s in the cards, Kelley Blue Book has put together a list of the most romantic cars to take a ride in.

It’s natural for people to associate cars with a holiday like Valentine’s Day says Kelley Blue Book executive editorial director Jack Nerad.

“So many people have romantic feelings tied to cars, whether it is the thought of what a car represents at a certain time in a person’s life, an activity they are passionate about, or perhaps the memory of a long drive with a special someone,” said Nerad who is also executive market analyst for kbb.com.

Taking a ride in a convertible with the wind running through your hair can be very romantic and the company lists a couple of cars that are known to be driving with the top down. According to the company, a Mazda MX-5 Miata and a Chevy Corvette are perfect choices.

For the more environmentally friendly couple the company suggests the cozy smart fortwo. At 8.8 feet long and 5.1 feet wide a couple can’t help but stay close.

Lindsay Lohan behind the wheel of a Mercedes SL550

It seems that while much-maligned starlet Lindsay Lohan is finally back behind the wheel in California, the economic situation has hit her hard as photographers recently caught her getting behind the wheel of a Mercedes SL550 – a step down from her SL65.

After crashing her SL65 almost two years ago, Lohan has gotten her California license back, but now she’s driving a SL550, which is a significant downgrade for the Mean Girls star.

While many people would be happy to drive around in an SL550, at $98,000 Kelly Blue Book lists the car at almost half the sticker price of a $194,175 SL65.

In other Lohan news, it seems the actress is having some bad luck with her forms of transportation. Following last week’s Super Bowl, Lohan was bumped from first class on a Delta airlines flight from Tampa, Florida.

But reports say the 22-year-old actress threw a fit and eventually a first class seat was found to accommodate her.

Celebrities and the cars they drive

Like dogs and their masters, cars often resemble the personality of their owners. This can be especially true of celebrities who often drive a vehicle that matches the type of person they are.

Automotive blog Jalopnik recently put together a list of celebrities and the cars they drive and for most it’s not all that surprising.

Three of the celebrities on Jalopnik’s list drive around in a Toyota Prius including Entourage star Adrian Grenier and Larry David of Curb Your Enthusiasm fame. And as someone who wants vehicles on both ends of the ecologically-friendly spectrum, Ewan McGregor drives both a fuel sipping Prius and a gas guzzling Land Rover.

CNN talk show host Larry King is 75 years old so it should be no surprise that he drives a car that is fitting his age. According to Jalopnik, he sports around town in a Lincoln MKS.

And then there are the celebrities who drive the expensive, fashionable cars. Kim Kardashian drives both a Bentley Continental and a Range Rover while eccentric star Nicolas Cage drives a car fitting of his movie Gone in 60 Seconds – a Ferrari Enzo.

It was revealed last month that one of the most well known people in the free world – Barack Obama – used to drive a Chrysler 300C. The car sold on an auction site for more than $270,000.

Amanda Bynes sued over car wreck

Hairspray star Amanda Bynes is being sued for hospital bills and damages resulting from a four car pileup that occurred in 2007 which left one motorist with minor injuries.

David Feldman, the attorney for Bynes told TMZ that when the accident occurred the cars in question were only traveling around 5 miles per hour – calling it a minor fender bender.

He also said the lawsuit, being filed by Shari Landon, was filed on the last possible day and that Bynes had never been notified of any injuries. Landon is also suing two other drivers along with rental car company Hertz.

Bynes was also involved in a multi-car accident in August of last year.

It was recently reported that Bynes had split from her boyfriend Doug Reinhardt, who was often featured on the MTV reality drama The Hills.

Reinhardt had previously been linked to reality star Lauren Conrad.

Cars.com sees searches increase in 2009

It seems that for many Americans, a new year means a new car with Cars.com reporting it saw an uptick in searches from people interested in buying a car in the start of 2009.

Cars.com president Mitch Golub says that although the figures the company is looking at are for a very short period, it believes 2009 will be an encouraging year for the auto industry.

“Based on activity we saw in the first full business week of the year on Cars.com, we are optimistic that automotive sales will pick up in the first quarter of 2009,” he said.

Overall the site has seen a 19 percent increase in traffic over last year, with users spending 12 percent more time on the site than a year ago. The average visit is now up to 15 minutes per user.

With the increase in people accessing the internet through handheld devices, the company says it has seen searches from mobile devices increase 30 percent since December – a total of 39 percent of all Cars.com users.

In a tough economy, a number of people are likely turning to Cars.com to look for inexpensive used cars.

Cadillac One revealed

This week General Motors released pictures of what is likely to be the most popular car in the next few weeks as the nation turns its eyes to Washington – the new presidential limo.

The car, which looks like a longer version of a Cadillac DTS, will have numerous safety and security features making it seem more like something out of a Hollywood movie than a presidential vehicle.

In addition to normal safety features in a Cadillac, the Presidential car, dubbed Cadillac One, includes night vision cameras, windows that can withstand armor-piercing bullets, and a five inch thick steel plate running beneath the car to protect against explosions.

Cadillac says great lengths were taken to make sure the car, which is being referred to as “The Beast” by Secret Service Agents, was as safe as possible.

“The car was designed, developed and tested by specialists who adhered to an extensive set of specifications,” the company said in a statement. “It was subjected to an extreme testing regimen to ensure performance that achieves precise functional requirements.”

The previous presidential limo, also a Cadillac, will go to Vice President-elect Joe Biden.

Obama’s used car could pull in big bucks

In a tough economy, it’s cost effective to buy a used car, but for one Chicago man, the purchase of President-elect Barack Obama’s used car may turn into a jackpot.

Tim O’Boyle says he bought Obama’s used 2005 Chrysler 300C – which has a HEMI engine, moonroof, leather interior and GPS – at a Chicago area dealership for $24,000 and was told at the time that it was the former car of the President-elect.

O’Boyle put the car for sale on an internet auction site yesterday and as of 5pm Thursday the bidding was up to $150,000. For someone who just had to have the car, it could be theirs for $1 million.

“Overall, the car is immaculate. If you were to jump inside the thing and drive it, you’d think you’re driving a brand new car,” O’Boyle told the Associated Press. “Hopefully he takes as good care of the country as he did the car.”

Kelly Blue Book lists a 2005 Chrysler 300C in excellent condition at just under $24,000.
