Knowing Your Warranty

shutterstock_422296486

When looking to buy a pre-owned car, researching the vehicle you are interested will help you decide what is the best option for you. Knowing about the warranty of the car you want is extremely helpful and can save you a headache in the future. Most dealerships, like New Jersey State Auto Auction, will have information ready for you, but it is a good idea to do your homework before taking the next step.

Car manufacturers offer certain warranties on their new vehicles that tend to expire after a certain period of time or once the car reaches a certain mileage. These warranties are different for each vehicle and can protect new cars from costly problems. Many people believe that buying a used car voids these benefits, but that is untrue.

A certified pre-owned vehicle protection plan begins once the original warranty ends. Different brands have different benefits, but car manufacturers like Chevrolet extends their bumper-to-bumper warranty. Other companies like Honda, adds years to their powertrain protection. BMW goes as far as extending their new car warranty, offering owners roadside assistance and emergency services to their pre-owned car drivers. Knowing what warranty and options you have are important and can influence your decision when purchasing your new pre-owned car.

At New Jersey State Auto Auction, we can help you look at your options and determine the best fit for you. Doing your research and knowing what you want before you look is very important and will make the buying process much easier. Myths to Avoid When Buying a Used Car – Part I

Used Car

Buying a used car is trickier than buying a new one, for obvious reasons. So, how do we avoid making a choice that will doom us to automotive and financial hell? For one thing, we need to make sure we don’t fall for any unfounded “myths” regarding used cars. Here are a few myths that are absolutely not true:

1) All used cars are equal – This is a myth that is not true at all. The quality and reliability of used cars vary greatly depending on how old it is, how much mileage it has already covered, and the reliability record of that particular model. Some car manufacturers do make it a point that their cars have a good reputation as used cars. For example, the Honda Civic, Chevrolet Impala and Ford Taurus are widely accepted to be among the safest used car choices when it comes to long term reliability whereas other car makers like Land Rovers don’t do so well on a long term spectrum.

2) Buying from a dealer gives me a warranty and that is worth the extra money – Many people prefer buying from used car dealers rather than private sellers because of the warranty. While this is a logical approach to used car buying, you’ll want to ensure the warranty you’re signing up for is compatible with your expectations, otherwise you’ll likely experience lost money and frustrations down the road.

Never Ignore Dashboard Warning Lights

shutterstock_215790505

Drivers have the tendency to ignore dashboard lights at times thus exposing themselves and their fellow travelers to potential hazards. When you are driving a vehicle, there are chances that any of the dashboard lights have been switched on because of a number of reasons. While there are certain warning lights that have been made as specific cases for individual brands, there are certain others that are common to all cars.

Remember not all the warning lights mean the same thing. While red warning light points towards a serious problem, an orange or a yellow light means that any of the electrical or mechanical components is in requirement of an immediate rehaul. If the light continues to flash, you should make it a point to contact your dealership immediately. A blue or a green light means that there is nothing to worry for the moment and that a specific system is working as it should be.

Remember that if a critical light has switched itself on, it should immediately be resolved. Consequently, the car needs to be stopped and allowed to be handed over for repair work. Ignoring the signal means that you are not only putting yourself at a greater risk, but all the warranty conditions are becoming void.

Make sure that you know the meanings of the specific warning lights and take steps to address the same immediately.

Just in case you want to buy a car for yourself, do make it a point to visit the New Jersey State Auto Auction store today.
