Cash for Clunkers may limit buyers’ choices of used Dodge Rams in New Jersey

One of the byproducts of the federal Cash for Clunkers program is that all qualified used cars in New Jersey that are given to dealers must be completely scrapped with their engines rendered unusable to prevent fraud.

Many of the vehicles that qualify for the rebates are SUVs and pick-ups, and some industry websites are finding that owners of these vehicles have been researching their options online.

Some of the most likely candidates to go to a junkyard are Ford F-Series pick-up trucks, Chevrolet Silverados, and used Dodge Rams in New Jersey, according to web traffic statistics.

For those who may want to get a Ram before they’re put out to pasture, the 2004 model was one of the first that offered a “Hemi” V8 engine that provided more power than previous versions, along with “sharp handling,” according to the editors at Edmunds.com

Blogger: Dodge Neon is a fun drive

Some cars can be a surprisingly fun drive, despite their mediocre looks and a lackluster reputation on the street, according to one car blogger.

Sam Barer, writing for the CarDomain.com blog, recently compiled a list of “guilty-pleasure cars that are more fun to drive than you’d expect.”

One of the cars Barer mentions is the Dodge Neon, a vehicle the blogger admits “was (and will always be) a lousy car to own” because almost every component of the car was “engineered to the same quality levels as a Chinese elementary school.”

However, the car enthusiast concedes that despite the car’s shortcomings, it is “simply a blast to drive really hard,” according to the article.

Barer references the vehicle’s ample horsepower, its “ultra-nimble” handling and the performance of the steering and brake pedal feedback.

While reportedly fun, the Dodge Neon may also be the car for the current time, since more Americans are looking at used vehicles to cut down on transportation costs. Used Neons, especially now, may be a cost-effective purchase for people in need of a reliable and “fun” car.

Just don’t expect it to heighten your street cred when you roll it around the neighborhood.

Dodge Ram wins International Truck of the Year

Earlier this month the Dodge Ram 1500 won the award for International Truck of the Year by jurors for the International Car of The Year (ICOTY), beating out competition from the Ford F-150 and Toyota Tacoma.

“We’re glad third-party organizations including ICOTY recognize Dodge Ram’s game-changing innovations, functionality, safety and value,” said Scott Kunselman of Chrysler.

The Truck of the Year honor is just one of a handful or awards the Dodge Ram has walked home with including awards from Edmunds, Truckin’ magazine and various other publications.

Jeff Taylor, auto writer for the Chicago Sun-Times said the Ram is the “personal use champ” when it comes to trucks in its class, taking the title away from the Toyota Tacoma.

Although he says a number of other trucks on the market have their advantages, Taylor thinks the Ram is perfect for those who will be using it on a regular basis for more everyday tasks.

“My assessment is based strictly on personal use including; commuting, carting around the entire family, carrying home construction materials, hauling bicycles and moving assorted boxes during the review period,” he writes.
