{"id":477,"date":"2009-02-03T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2009-02-03T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.njstateauto.com\/general-auto-news\/police-buy-used-cars-for-their-force\/"},"modified":"2009-02-03T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2009-02-03T00:00:00","slug":"police-buy-used-cars-for-their-force","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.njstateauto.com\/blog\/police-buy-used-cars-for-their-force\/","title":{"rendered":"Police buy used cars for their force"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With a slumping economy, many police forces in the U.S. are finding it hard to justify buying a new vehicle for their patrols &#8211; instead they are turning to used cars.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Munster Times, the Lake County Police force has decided to purchase <a href=\"http:\/\/www.njstateauto.com\/preowned\/index.cfm?make=Ford\" class=\"dnautolink\">used Ford<\/a> Tauruses and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.njstateauto.com\/preowned\/index.cfm?make=Mercury\" class=\"dnautolink\">Mercury<\/a> Grand Marquis to counter the rising gas prices and the increase in new car payments.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We were looking for cars that were not going to kill us on the price,&#8221; Lake County Police Chief Marco Kuyachich told the paper.<\/p>\n<p>It seems that the police force has been able to find cars that are relatively new with only a few thousand miles on them that are about half the cost of a new vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I recently bought 12 Grand Marquis for an average price of $12,000 each,&#8221; Kuyachich told the paper. &#8220;New, those are $26,000 cars.
