{"id":2341,"date":"2011-02-15T18:32:00","date_gmt":"2011-02-15T18:32:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.njstateauto.com\/auto-industry-news\/top-green-car-is-gas-powered\/"},"modified":"2011-02-15T18:32:00","modified_gmt":"2011-02-15T18:32:00","slug":"top-green-car-is-gas-powered","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.njstateauto.com\/blog\/top-green-car-is-gas-powered\/","title":{"rendered":"Top green car is&#8230; gas-powered?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) has released its annual &quot;greenest cars&quot; list, and surprisingly, a hybrid or plug-in did not take the top spot.<\/p>\n<p>It was the natural gas <a href=\"http:\/\/www.njstateauto.com\/preowned\/index.cfm?make=Honda\" class=\"dnautolink\">Honda<\/a> Civic GX that ended up as the most efficient vehicle overall, beating out cars typically thought to be &quot;green&quot; like the Nissan Leaf and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.njstateauto.com\/preowned\/index.cfm?make=Toyota\" class=\"dnautolink\">Toyota<\/a> Prius. The reason? The ACEEE takes into account not only fuel efficiency and consumption, but emissions and the effects on the environment as a whole.<\/p>\n<p>The group pointed out that hybrids and plug-ins, while emitting nothing from the tailpipe, cause a drain on energy when they&#039;re plugged in. They also lose points as their batteries cause emissions when made and will eventually end up as waste that&#039;s difficult to dispose of.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;As U.S. power generation becomes cleaner, these vehicles&#039; scores will rise,&quot; said Therese Langer, ACEEE&#039;s transportation director.<\/p>\n<p>The highly-touted <a href=\"http:\/\/www.njstateauto.com\/preowned\/index.cfm?make=Chevrolet\" class=\"dnautolink\">Chevrolet<\/a> Volt didn&#039;t make the top 10, coming in at twelfth on the list.
