GMC Information:General Motors, one of Detroit's Big Three automakers, has a number of divisions that produce vehicles including Chevrolet, Pontiac and GMC. The GMC division was created in 1912, just a few years after GM was founded, and the brand was targeted toward the working crowd. Many of the early model GMC trucks were designed for use in the military, and the company even produced fire trucks and ambulances. In 1937, GMC introduced the Suburban, a truck-like station wagon that offered all the utility of a truck, but the comfort of a passenger car.Over the years, the brand has offered a number of different trucks and SUVs, such as the Jimmy, which first appeared as a military vehicle during World War II, according to Edmunds. When GMC debuted its first SUV, the Jimmy name was revived and assigned to this vehicle, which remained popular for many years. This vehicle was similar to the Chevrolet Blazer, and the sister companies shared more than a few models over the years, such as the GMC Sierra and the Chevy Silverado. In fact, the only major differences were the trim levels offered by each brand and the price tags. In recent years, GMC has whittled down its lineup to include a handful of SUVs and trucks. The Sierra is still in production today, along with the Terrain, Acadia, Yukon, Denali and Canyon. The Yukon is actually the same vehicle as the Suburban, but GMC discontinued the Suburban in 1999 and reintroduced it as the Yukon the following year. Drivers who are in the market for large, powerful trucks or SUVs will want to check out the GMCs available at New Jersey State Auto Auction.
